The advantages and disadvatages of using CFL lights in the indoor marijuana grow tent

The most common light that has been traditionally used to grow marijuana is the CFL. CFLs are tried and true, having been used for generations, causing many growers choose to go with them, despite the fact that LEDs are often hailed as a more efficient technology. For people who have properly done their research on lighting systems, LEDs are almost always the winner. While CFLs needed to be adjusted pretty much on a daily basis, LED lights do not need this frequent maintenance.

LED lights also do not release the large amount of heat that CFLs do. They are well-equipped with cooling systems such as fans or heatsinks as well, which allows for an easier time of keeping the grow room at a temperature that isn't too high (for the plants as well as the grower).

That all being said, there are some situations where using CFL lights makes more sense. One such situation is if your indoor marijuana growing tent is on the shorter side. This is simply because LED lights need to be kept further away from the plants than CFLs do. Using CFL lights doesn't exclude the need for fans, since any heat generated will need to be dissipated properly, whether it's "naturally" (open windows) or through forced ventilation (fans, A/C, etc).

The more wattage being used, the more heat produced. Generally speaking, CFL bulbs run cool as they can be physically touched (up to 42 watts) without burning the hand. This translates well into cooler grow rooms.

The average life of a High Intensity bulb is FAR, FAR less smaller than that of a CFL bulb. The typical CFL bulb will runs typically 8,000 to 10,000 hours, running roughly 3 hours per day.

Running your bulbs for vegetative state at 18 hours per day, will  shorten that span to between 1,333 and 1,666 hours, +/- a bit. For flowering, running at 12/12 will render your bulb life even longer.

The disadvantage of Using CFL lights:
Al but T-5's must be run very close to the canopy, but, even T-5's have limited penetration.
If used in the Greenhouse or Outdoors they must be waterproof, which increases the initial cost.
Tend to not be energetic enough for Flowering.
The larger fixture footprint as opposed to output make Fluorescent lamps ineffective in the Greenhouse.
Plants generally can be grown only to about 1' in height, 2' with T-5 lamps.

How to use:
1.Power on/off: Unlock the bottom cover button and put four 18650 cell into the battery body. Press the fire button 5 times in quick succession to turn the device on and off.
(Note: Please adjust the wattage to a proper range to match the atomizer you used before using. Moreover, please be careful not to use battery with torn shell for safety.)
2.Stealth function: While the device is on, simultaneously hold the fire button and the left regulatory button. This will switch the screen display on and off.

3.Key lock function: While the device is on, simultaneously press the two regulatory buttons. This will switch between Key Lock and Key Unlock function.

4.Micro USB Port function: The USB port can be used for charging and upgrading firmware. It is better to take out the cells and charge them through external charger.

5.Switch the display mode: By pressing the left and right regulatory buttons simultaneously in shutdown state, the screen display will rotate 180 degrees. You can then view the screen from two kinds of angle through this operation.

Shift among VW/TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS/TCR Mode
Press the fire button 3 times to enter into the mode options. Then press the right regulatory button to switch between VW/TC (Ni, Ti, SS)/TCR (M1, M2, M3) mode. Press the fire button to confirm.

Under TC/TCR mode, while the mode sign flashing, press the left regulatory button to enter its submenu. Then press the right regulatory button to choose TC-Ni/Ti/SS (TC mode) or M1/M2/M3 (TCR mode). Press the fire button to confirm.

VW Mode:In this mode, output wattage can be adjusted from 1W to 300W by pressing the regulatory buttons, right to increase and left to decrease.

TC-SS Mode: The TC-SS mode is suitable to SS316 coil.

TCR (M1, M2, M3): In TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) mode, users can set the parameters according to the TCR of coil.

The Setting of TCR Mode: In powered-off state, keep pressing the fire button and right regulatory button simultaneously, then you enter into the TCR set menu:
(1). Press the left or right regulatory button to choose among TCR M1, M2 and M3;
(2). Press the fire button to confirm the mode you chosen;
(3). Press the left or right regulatory button to increase or decrease the parameter according to the TCR of coil;
(4). Keep pressing the fire button or leave the interface for about 10 seconds to confirm.

   Following is the TCR value range for your reference:

Note: 1. The TCR value in the sheet is  multiplied of the actual TCR.
     2. The TCR value range is 1-1000.

Supplementary TC Modes Functions:
Temperature adjustment: In TC modes, the temperature can be adjusted from (100-315℃ or 200-600℉) with the two regulatory buttons, right to increase and left to decrease.

Shift between ℃ and ℉: If you increase the temperature to 315℃, and continue to press the right regulatory button, the temperature readings will automatically change to the lowest Fahrenheit (200℉), if the temperature is decreased below the minimum (100℃), the unit will change back to ℉ automatically, and the temperature will start to decrease from 600℉.

Wattage adjustment: While the wattage sign blink, press the right or left regulatory button to adjust the wattage, and press fire button to confirm, Long pressing the right or left regulatory button will make the wattage setting rapidly increase or decrease.

Resistance locked function: While the resistance sign blink, press the right regulatory button to lock or unlock the resistance of the atomizer. (Note: Such operation should be carried out at room temperature.)

New Atomizer installation: In TC Mode, be careful to attach new atomizers that have cooled to room temperature. If a new atomizer has not cooled down before attaching, the temperature may read and protect incorrectly until the new atomizer cools.
Note: 
1.When you connect a new atomizer or disconnect and reconnect your existing atomizer, the device will prompt you to confirm this change and a message will prompt “NEW COIL RIGHT, SAME COIL LEFT”. Press the right regulatory button to confirm that a new atomizer has been attached. Press the left regulatory button to confirm that the same atomizer has been reconnected.

2.When using normal coil or the resistance of coil you used is higher than 1.5ohm in TC modes, the device will automatically switch to VW mode.

Shift between Puff and Time: While the user information sign blink, press the right regulatory button to shift between Puff and Time.

Logo Mode:
When powered on, press the fire button and right regulatory button simultaneously and then you enter into the Logo Mode. Press the left regulatory button to choose between logo “ON” and “OFF”, and press the fire button to confirm.

You can download our logo. You can also make logos to your preference, and then import it through software. The logo should be monochrome image in the format of bmp with limited 64*48 pixel.

The setting of Preheat Function:
(1). Long Press the fire button and right regulatory button simultaneously to enter the menu.
(2). Press the right regulatory button to enter the preheat setting menu.
(3). Press the fire button to switch between preheat power and preheat duration.
(4). Press the left or right regulatory button to decrease or increase the parameter.
(5). Long press the fire button to confirm.

Malfunction Indication and Protection:

No Atomizer Alert: When the device does not detect an atomizer, the OLED screen will display “NO ATOMIZER FOUND”.

Atomizer Low Alert: When the resistance of atomizer is lower than 0.1ohm in VW mode or lower than 0.05ohm in TC modes, the OLED screen will display “ATOMIZER LOW”.

Atomizer Short-circuit Protection: When atomizer short-circuit occurs the OLED Screen will display “ATOMIZER SHORT”.

Temperature Alert: If the internal temperature of the device is over 70℃, the output will shut off automatically and the screen will display “DEVICE TOO HOT”.

Over 10 Second Protection: When the power button is pressed for over 10 seconds, the output will shut off and the OLED screen will display “OVER 10S PROTECT”.

Temperature Protection: In TC modes, if the actual temperature of coil reaches the set temperature, the device shows “TEMP PROTECT”.

Weak Battery Alert:
In VW/TC mode, when the device installed with an atomizer is working and the voltage of battery is below 2.9V, the device shows “WEAK BATTERY”. Meanwhile, the output power will be reduced accordingly.

Low Power Alert: If the power of battery is lower than 10%, the power symbol on the screen will flash.

Imbalanced Alert: When the difference between the maximum and minimum cell voltage is equal or greater than 0.3V, the OLED screen will display “IMBALANCED BATTERIES” after inserting the USB cable. Then please take out the cells to charge or replace with freshly charged cells.

Check USB Alert: When the voltage of the USB charger is equal or greater than 5.8V, the OLED screen will display “CHECK USB ADAPTER” after inserting the USB cable or vaping.

Charge Error Alert: When no current is detected in charging state, the OLED screen will display “CHARGE ERROR”.

Check Battery Alert: When one of the cells is not installed correctly, the OLED screen will display “CHECK BATTERY”.

User Manual For Eleaf iStick Pico

Thank you for choosing Eleaf products! Please read this manual carefully before use so as to use correctly. If you require additional information or have questions about the product or its use, please consult your local agents, or visit our website at www.eleafworld.com.

Product Introduction
Eleaf iStick Pico, just like its name, is tiny and exquisite in appearance. Powered by single interchangeable 18650 cell, it provides you with 75W maximum output and switchable VW/Bypass/TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS/TCR Modes. With top e-liquid filling design, hidden airflow control and detachable structure, the new MELO III Mini is the best match for the iStick Pico.


How to use
Power on/off: Screw off the battery cap, put one high-rate 18650 cell (positive side down and negative side up) into iStick Pico and finally screw on the battery cap. The device can be powered on/off by pressing the fire button 5 times.
Note:
1.Please make sure you are using a high-rate 18650 cell whose continuous discharge current should be above 25A.
2.Please be careful not to use cell with torn casing as it is a safety hazard.
3.Before using, please set the wattage within a proper range that the atomizer you installed can work with.

Vaping: Long press the fire button to take a puff.

Stealth on/off: Press the fire button and down button simultaneously when the device is powered on to switch between Stealth On and Stealth Off mode. In Stealth On mode, you can vape with the OLED screen off and you can press the fire button one time to see current setting.

Adjustment buttons lock/unlock: Keep pressing up button and down button simultaneously for two seconds when the device is powered on, then the up and down buttons will be locked and the screen will display “Lock”. In the same way, the up and down buttons can be unlocked and the screen will display “Unlock”. Through this operation, you can protect the buttons from unintentional presses and prolong their lifespan.

Switch display mode:Keep pressing up button and down button simultaneously for two seconds when the device is powered off, the screen display will rotate 180 degrees. You can view the screen from two different angles through this operation.

Switch vaping modes: When the device is powered on, press the fire button 3 times in quick succession, the device will display current vaping mode. Press the up or down button to switch among VW, Bypass, TC-Ni, TC-Ti. TC-SS, TCR-M1, TCR-M2, TCR-M3 modes and then press the fire button one time or stay in the interface for about 10 seconds to confirm the vaping mode you chose.

1)In VW mode:
When set in VW mode, the device can support a coil whose resistance is within the range of 0.1ohm-3.5ohm.
Adjust wattage: In this mode, the output wattage can be adjusted from 1W to 75W by pressing up button or down button, up button to increase and down button to decrease, Long press up button or down button can rapidly increase or decrease the wattage level.

2)In Bypass mode:
When set in Bypass mode, the device can support a coil whose resistance is within the range of 0.1ohm-3.5ohm, Direct output voltage system is applied in this mode. The higher the battery level, the higher the output Voltage.

3)In TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS/TCR(M1, M2, M3) Mode:
When set in TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS mode, the device can separately support Nickel 200, Titanium, and Stainless Steel 316 coils. In TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) mode, the device can support different temperature control coils within different TCR value ranges and you can set the TCR at different values within proper range. (Resistance range of coil: 0.05ohm-1.5ohm)

The Setting of TCR Mode (M1, M2, M3): When the device is powered off, keep pressing the fire button and the up button simultaneously, then you will enter into the TCR (M1, M2, M3) set menu:
1.Press the up or down button to choose among M1, M2 and M3 modes;
2.Press the fire button one time to confirm the mode you choose;
3.Press the up or down button to increase or decrease the TCR value according to the material of the coil you use;
4.Keep pressing the fire button or stay in the interface for about 10 seconds to confirm your setting.
Follow are different TCR value ranges for different coils for your reference:

1. The TCR value in the sheet is 10 multiplied of the actual TCR.
2. Our total range of TCR value is 1-1000.

Adjust wattage: In TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS/TCR (M1, M2, M3) mode, the output wattage can be adjusted from 1W to 75W. Press the fire button 4 times in quick succession to enter the wattage setting menu and press up or down button without looseness to rapidly increase or decrease the wattage level.

Adjust temperature: In TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS/TCR (M1, M2, M3) mode, temperature can be adjusted from 100-315℃ or 200-600℉ by pressing up button or down button, up button to increase and down button to decrease. Each press of the up or down button will increase or decrease the temperature setting by 5℃ or 10℉. Keep pressing up button or down button without looseness can rapidly increase or decrease temperature setting.

Shift between ℃ and ℉: If you increase the temperature to 315℃, and continue to press the up button, the temperature reading will automatically change to the lowest Fahrenheit (200℉). Equally, if the temperature reading will automatically change to the highest Celsius (315℃).
Lock/Unlock resistance: In TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS/TCR (M1, M2, M3) mode, when the device is powered on, keep pressing the fire button and up button simultaneously for two seconds to lock or unlock atomizer “base resistance”. The lock sign will appear when resistance is locked and “Ω” symbol will come back when unlocked.

Note:
1.Please lock the resistance when the coil is at room temperature so that the device can display the correct “base resistance”.
2.In resistance lock mode, when you remove the coil and then put it back, the device can maintain the same “base resistance” although the coil resistance may increase due to the rise of temperature. In resistance unlock mode, when you remove the coil and then put a coil back, the screen may display “New coil up same down” as the coil resistance may increase within certain range. If it is the same coil, press the down button and if it is a new coil, press the up button. But please unlock the resistance when you want to change an atomizer or a coil of different resistance.
3.When using a common coil or a coil whose resistance is above 1.5ohm in TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS/TCR (M1, M2, M3) mode by mistake, the device will automatically switch back to VW mode.

Functions of Micro USB Port

Charging:
The battery power indicator on the screen of iStick Pico will keep flashing when the remaining power of the 18650 cell is less than 10%.
The 18650 cell can be charged in the iStick Pico through USB port via 1A wall adapter or a computer or charged with an external battery charger. If the 18650 cell is charged in the iStick Pico, the battery indicator on the screen will keep flashing during charging and the screen will go out when fully charged.
It is recommended to charge the 18650 cell with an external battery charger as it will take less time to give it a full charge.

Firmware Upgrading:
The firmware can by upgraded by connecting the device with a computer through the USB port via a micro USB cable.

Properties
Atomizer Protection: Each time when vaping time exceeds 10 seconds, the output shuts off automatically with “Over 10s” display on the screen.
Atomizer Low Alert: When the resistance of coil is lower than 0.1ohm in VW/Bypass mode or lower than 0.05ohm in TC modes, the screen will display “Atomizer Low”.
Atomizer Short-circuit & No Atomizer Protection: When atomizer short-circuit occurs, the screen will display “Atomizer Short”. The screen will display “No Atomizer” when there is no atomizer connected.
Low-voltage Protection: When the voltage of the cell is below 3.1V, the screen will first display “Battery Low” and then “Lock”. Charge the cell to unlock the device.
Temperature Protection: In TC modes, when the actual temperature of coil reaches the set temperature, the screen will display “Temp Protection”. You can continue to use the device normally.
Temperature Alert: If the temperature of device is over alert temperature, the output will shut off automatically and the screen will display “Device Too Hot”. You can continue to vape after it cools down.
Weak Battery Alert: In all vaping modes, when the device is working with an atomizer and the voltage of the cell drops below 2.9V, the screen will display “Weak Battery”. Meanwhile, the output power will be reduced accordingly.

1.Only have your iStick Pico repaired by Eleaf. Do not attempt to repair the unit by yourself as damage or personal injury may occur.
2.Do not leave the iStick Pico in high temperatures or damp conditions, otherwise it may be damaged. The appropriate operation temperature is within 0℃ to 45℃ while charging and -10℃ to 60℃ while using.
3.Do not attempt to combine the iStick Pico with parts from other brands of E-cigarettes. If it is damaged in this way, our company will not take on responsibility and your warranty will be void.

You Should Know The Stages Of Growing Marijuana

Before starting to grow marijuana, you should be familiar with the growing stages of marijuana.


Germination
Germination is the process in which the seeds sprout and the root emerges. In Marijuana it takes from 12 hours to 8 days. Warmth, darkness and moisture initiate metabolic processes such as the activation of hormones that trigger the expansion of the embryo within the seed. Then the seed coat cracks open and a small embryonic root emerges and begins growing downward (because of gravitropism), if placed in a proper growing medium. Soon (after 2–4 days) the root is anchored and two circular embryonic leaves (cotyledons) emerge in search of light and the remains of the seed shell are pushed away. This marks the beginning of the seedling stage.Germination is initiated by soaking seeds either between wet paper towels, in a cup of water at room temperature, in wet peat pellets, or directly in potting soil. Peat pellets are often used as a germinating medium because the saturated pellets with their seedlings can be planted directly into the intended growing medium with a minimum of shock to the plant.

Seedling phase
The seedling stage begins when the seed coat splits open and exposes the root and round “seed leaves” or cotyledons. It lasts from 1 to 4 weeks and is the period of greatest vulnerability in the life cycle of the plant, requiring moderate humidity levels, medium to high light intensity, and adequate but not excessive soil moisture.Most indoor growers use compact fluorescent or T5 fluorescent lights during this stage as they produce little heat. HPS and MH lights produce large amounts of radiant heat and increase the rate of transpiration in the plant which can quickly dry out seedlings with their small root systems.

Vegetative phase
This Marijuana plant is being grown in a coco coir medium. It is only making stems and leaves at this point because it is in the vegetative stage
Duration: 1–2 months indoors. In this stage the plant needs a significant amount of light and nutrients, depending on the genetics of the particular plant. It continues to grow vertically and produce new leaves. The sex is starting to reveal itself, which is a sign that the next stage begins. Concurrently the root system expands downwards in search of more water and food.

When the plant possesses seven sets of true leaves and the 8th is barely visible in the center of the growth tip, or shoot apical meristem (SAM), the plant has entered the vegetative phase of growth. During the vegetative phase, the plant directs its energy resources primarily to the growth of leaves, stems, and roots. A strong root system is required for strong floral development. A plant needs 1 or 2 months to mature before blooming. The plant is ready when it has revealed its sex. Plant size is a good indicator of sex. Females tend to be shorter and branchier due to their raceme type inflorescence than males, whose flowers grow in panicles. The males are then usually culled when they are identified, so that the females will not be pollinated, thus producing "sin semilla" ("without seed") buds.

During the vegetative phase, cultivators generally employ an 18- to 24-hour photoperiod because the plants grow more quickly if they receive more light, although a warmer and cooler period are required for optimal health. Although no dark period is required, there is debate among cultivators as to whether a dark period is beneficial, and many continue to employ a dark period. Energy savings often support using a dark period, as plants undergo late day decline and therefore lighting during the late night hours is less effective.

The amount of time to grow a Marijuana plant indoors in the vegetative stage depends on the size of the flower, the light used, the size of the space, and how many plants are intended to flower at once, and how big the strain gets in "the stretch" (i.e., the first two weeks of flowering).

Marijuana cultivators employ fertilizers high in N (nitrogen) and K (potassium) during the vegetative stage, as well as a complete micro nutrient fertilizer. The strength of the fertilizer is gradually increased as the plants grow and become more hardy.

Also called the stretch, this takes one day to two weeks. Most plants spend 10–14 days in this period after switching the light cycle to 12 hours of darkness. Plant development increases dramatically, with the plant doubling or more in size. (See reproductive development below.) Production of more branches and nodes occurs during this stage, as the structure for flowering grows. The plant starts to develop bracts/bracteoles where the branches meet the stem (nodes). Pre-flowering indicates the plant is ready to flower.

Flowering phase
The flowering phase varies from about 6 to 22 weeks for pure indicas with their shorter flowering time than pure sativas. Mixed indica/sativa strains have an intermediate flowering time. The sex is clearly revealed in the first flowering phase. Males produce little ball-like flowers clustered together like grapes called panicles. Most plants (except auto flowering strains that flower independently of photoperiod) begin to flower under diminishing light. In nature, Marijuana plants sense the forthcoming winter as the Earth revolves about the Sun and daylight reduces in duration (see also season). If females are not pollinated (fertilized by male pollen) they start to produce buds that contain sticky white resin glands or trichomes in a final attempt for pollination by windborne male pollen. The trichomes produce resins that contain the largest amounts of THC and CBN, the two main psychoactive substances. Fertilized females continue to produce resinous trichomes but more plant energy is consumed by the production of seeds, which can be half the mass of a fertilized bract; thus, to maximize resin per gram, infertile cultivation is preferred.

Inflorescence that produce no seeds are called sin semilla (which translates to "without seeds" in Spanish, and is often misspelled as one word). Potent sin semilla is especially important to medical users, to minimize the amount of Marijuana they must consume to be afforded relief. Marijuana with seeds is generally considered to be of inferior quality and/or grown with inferior technique. Marijuana grown is induced into flowering by decreasing its photoperiod to at least 10 hours of darkness per day. In order to initiate a flowering response, the number of hours of darkness must exceed a critical point. Generally the more hours of darkness each day, the shorter the overall flowering period but the lower the yield. Conversely, the fewer hours of darkness each day, the longer the overall flowering period and the higher the yield. Traditionally, most growers change their plants lighting cycle to 12 hours on and 12 hours off since this works as a happy medium to which most strains respond well. This change in photoperiod mimics the plant's natural outdoor cycle, with up to 18 hours of light per day in the summer and down to less than 12 hours of light in fall and winter.[citation needed]

Some 'semi-autoflowering' strains that have been bred exclusively for outdoor use, particularly in outdoor climates such as that of the UK, will start flowering with as much as 16–17 hours of light per day. Usually they can start flowering in July and finish far earlier than other strains, particularly those that haven't been bred as outdoor strains. Semi-auto flowering strains can be harvested before the weather in northern latitudes becomes very wet and cold (generally October), whereas other strains are just finishing flowering, and may suffer from botrytis (grey mold) caused by wet weather. Alternatively growers may artificially induce the flowering period during the warmer months by blacking out the plants for 12 hours a day i.e. by covering the plants with black plastic for example, which excludes all light during this period so the plant can flower even during long days.

Although the flowering hormone in most plants (including Marijuana) is present during all phases of growth, it is inhibited by exposure to light. To induce flowering, the plant must be subject to at least 8 hours of darkness per day; this number is very strain-specific and most growers use 12 hours of darkness.

Flowers from certain plants (e.g. Marijuana) are called bract/bracteole, and are (with Marijuana) the most prized part of the plant. During the late period, the bract/bracteole are easily visible to the naked eye. Bract/bracteole development begins approximately 1–2 weeks after the photo period is reduced. In the first weeks of flowering a plant usually doubles in size and can triple. Bract/bracteole development ends around 5 weeks into flowering and is followed by a period of bract/bracteole “swelling”. During this time the buds greatly increase in weight and size.
